Abstract This Decree prohibits Norwegian vessels to fish for and land basking sharks in international waters and the Norwegian EEZ in ICES Statistical areas I-XIV. Basking sharks caught as bycatch of other fish species shall be returned alive to the sea, but if the fish is already dead or dying it may be landed as bycatch. Offending these provisions shall be punished in accordance with section 53 of the Marine Fisheries Act 1983.
