Abstract This Ministerial Regulation formulates rules relative to ionizing radiation of food and beverages in the interest of public health and fair trade. The Regulation is not based on EC legislation but refers norms of to the Recommended International Code of Practice for the Operation of Iraddiation Facilities Used for the Treatment of Foods of the Codex Alimentarius. Chapter I contains general provisions. Chapter II lays down norms for irradiation facilities. Chapter III concerns irradiation of other products than food or beverages such as food packing. Chapter IV lays down norms for the irradiation of specified food giving maximum irradiation values. Provisions of Chapter V regulate the importation of irradiated food, beverages, and raw materials used for food production. Chapter VI gives provisions relative to the marketing of irradiated food, beverages, and raw materials which are not intended for the end-user. Chapter VII contains final provisions.
