Abstract This Decree places limits on the fishing for and landing of cod and haddock by Norwegian trawlers north of the 62nd parallel and some other specified areas outside of the Norwegian Economic Zone. The Decree prohibits in principle the fishing for these species but section 2 allows a total quota of 64.943 tons of cod and 26.306 tons of haddock to be fished by vessels that have a trawl licence under Decree No. 2185 of 1986. Section 2 also indicates amounts of allowable bycatch. Section 4 specifies yearly quotas for fresh fish trawling vessels, freezing vessels, and factory vessels. Section 4 concerns redistribution of quotas. The prohibition does not apply to quotas allocated to other States (sect. 5). The remaining provisions deal with bycatch for vessels fishing for coalfish or shrimps (sects. 6 and 7), a stop on fishing during Easter (sect. 8) and a stop on fishing if the quota levels are reached (sect. 9) and rights in the case of lease of another vessel (sect. 10).
