Abstract The Decree prohibits fishing for demersal fishes by vessels flying the flag of Norway in fishery zones of the Faeroe islands in 2003. However a quota of 2.200 tons of ling, blue ling, 1.800 tons of tusk, and 400 tons of coalfish may be caught with traditional gear. In addition of these quotas another 822 tons may be caught as bycatch of other species. Bycatch may not exceed 30 percent on single fishing days. Limits are placed on the number of total fishing days and the number of vessels that may participate in fishing at the same moment.
