The Decree prohibits in principle fishing for and landing of mackerel by Norwegian vessels. However a total quota of 90.000 tons (for specified areas in the Norwegian inner waters, the EEZ, the international waters, the fisheries zone of Jan Mayen, the fisheries protection zone of Svalbard) is allowed to be fished in 2011 in accordance with conditions set out in the present Decree. Another 3.550 tons may be caught in the statistical area IV of the EU zone. Horse mackerel may be caught as bycatch in accordance with this Decree.
