Abstract

The text of this Decree is divided into 6 Chapters: General prohibition and quotas (I); Fishing in purse seine groups (II); Fishing in trawl groups (III); Fishing in coastal vessel groups (IV); General provisions (V); Offences and entry into force (VI). This Decree prohibits in principle fishing for and landing of mackerel by Norwegian vessels. However a total quota of 182.637 tons is allowed to be fished in 2002 in accordance with conditions set out in the present Decree specified for specific kind of fishing vessels. 21.391 tons may be fished in the Norwegian Economic Zone and international waters. Of this quota 6.600 tons may be fished in the zone of the Faeroe Islands and 161.246 tons in the North Sea in ICES area IVa. Of this quota 14.100 ton shall be fished in the EU-zone west of 4 ° V in ICES area VIa north of 56 ° 30' N, and ICES areas VIId, VIIe, VIIf and VIIh. Section 1 prohibits in principal fishing for mackerel with Norwegian vessels in 2001. However, a total allowable catch of 176.370 tons may be fished in the areas specified in Chapters II, III, and IV for each type of fishing (sect. 2).
