Abstract

This Decree-Law approves EC Council Directive No. 98/58 of 20 July establishing minimum animal protection for stock breeding purpose. It consists of 3 chapters and 1 annex specifying all the animals covered by this protecting measures, owner obligation, controls to be carry out by competent authority and sanctions to be paid for illegal activity. Annex specifies the requirements to be satisfied for keeping in health animals within breeding infrastructures (regulating animal feeding). This Decree-Law does not apply to: a) wild animals; b) animals intended for competitions, shows and demonstrations or cultural, sporting or similar activities; c) animals used for experimental or other scientific purposes; d) Invertebrate animals.
