Abstract This Decree-Law, composed of 31 articles, establishes the Institute of Environment (IA). The aim is to set-up an autonomous body in charge offor planning, studying, providing technical, legal and scientific support in the field of environmental management and in the promotion of sustainable development. Moreover, it shall ensure public access to information and civil society participation on environmental concerns. The Decree-Law defines IA structure, mission, functions and management instruments. Moreover, it rules on the succession regime of the former General-Direction for Environment and the Institute for Environmental Promotion.
