Abstract This Decree of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia lays down new objectives of Natura areas which are: (1) maintain or achieve a favorable status of plant and animal species and habitat types recognized as Natura areas with the favorable conditions expressed in the specified indicators; (2) preserve the integrity of the Natura areas in terms of maintaining their ecological structures, functions and conservation potential; (3) preservation of coherence of the Natura sites. The protection objectives specified above must be defined for each Natura area. The present Decree establishes also the new list of Natura 2000 areas and potential Natura 2000 areas.
