Abstract The present Decree of the Ministry of the Environment lays down rules providing for a system of extended responsibility for the management of waste originating from disposable products. The purpose of the Decree is to reduce adverse effects on the environment from the disposal of disposable products into the environment, by making producers assume the financial responsibility for the management of waste which has been disposed of and for the dissemination of disposal information. Producers shall pay a yearly fee to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency if any of the products listed in section 8 are placed on the Swedish market.
