Abstract The present Decree lays down rules providing for a system of increased producer responsibility for the management of waste related to fishing gear. Its objective is to (a) increase the collection, reuse and recycling of fishing gear and (b) reduce waste from fishing gear. Fishing gear is understood to mean gear containing plastic and which is used for fishing and breeding of fish resources. The Decree sets as a goal that the amount of waste from fishing gear collected during a calendar year be at least 20 percent of the amount of fishing gear released on the Swedish market during the same calendar year by 2027.
