Abstract

These Regulations amend the Control of Asbestos in Water Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995 which require the Department of the Environment to reduce and prevent, as far as reasonably practicable, emissions of asbestos into the aquatic environment. The amendment (new regulation 4A) requires the Department to monitor, in conformity with procedures and methods described in the Annex to Directive 87/217, at regular intervals any discharge into the aquatic environment which may contain asbestos.
