Abstract

This Amendment inserts the term "Authority" in section 2 of the principal Act, meaning the International Sea-Bed Authority established by the 1982 Law of the Sea Convention, as well as the term "Convention", meaning the above-mentioned international treaty. Section 5 of the principal Act on mining for minerals is amended by inserting a new section 5A which elucidates on the application of that section, requires the payment of royalties for licences and permits and states that the Crown shall honour its obligations towards the Authority under article 82 of the Convention.
