This Law enters into force after six months from the day it is published in the Official Gazette.
Abstract

This Law is enacted with the aims of (i) protection of consumer health, safety and economic interests in accordance with the public interests, (ii) damage compensation, (iii) consumer protection against environmental hazards, (iv) consumer awareness-raising, (v) safeguard consumer rights in accordance with the safety, economic and social needs of the community, and (vi) encouragement of voluntary organization through policies. The Law contains all existing legal concepts dealing with consumer contracts to ensure more effective protection of consumer rights. it sets forth provisions on the fundamental principles applicable to consumer contracts, unfair terms and conditions in consumer contracts, unsolicited goods or services, inertia selling, consumers' obligation for notification regarding defective goods and services, consumer’s right of choice, consumer loan agreements, contracts concluded off-business premises, distance sale contracts, price labels, introductory and user guides, guarantees, after-sale services, consumer awareness-raising through education curricula, unfair commercial practices, procedures and principles of the Consumer and Advertising Council, the establishment and duties of the Consumer Arbitral Tribunal, inspection of consumer goods and services, penalties and sanctions, and the resolution of consumer disputes through the Consumer Arbitral Tribunal or Consumer Courts. In Article 79 regarding food-imitating products, the Law prohibits the production, marketing, import and export of those products in order to ensure protection of consumer health and safety with a special emphasis on children.
