Abstract

The Conservation (Indigenous Freshwater Fish) Amendment Act 2019 amends the Conservation Act 1987 in different sections, in particular it inserts new sections from 26ZHA to 26ZHD after section 26ZH. These entail the discipline of fisheries of Indigenous freshwater fish; firstly the Act specifies that approval under specified Acts to access public land is not approval for recreational fishing of indigenous freshwater fish; section 26ZHB establishes prohibitions and restrictions on taking of indigenous freshwater fish, but then section 26ZHC recognizes that Director-General may authorise taking of indigenous fish on application or by notice.
