This Regulation shall enter into force on 31 March 2004.

Abstract

This Regulation provides for the harmonization of the procedures for the declaration of, and veterinary checks on, the animals referred to in Directive 91/496/EEC coming from third countries. The person responsible for the load must give notice of the entry at least one working day before the expected arrival of the animal(s) on Community territory (art. 1). Veterinary checks and laboratory analyses shall be performed in accordance with Decision 97/794/EC. Articles 3 and 4 regulate the procedures to be followed after veterinary checks and those to be followed for animals under customs control or subject to special monitoring. Article 5 encourages coordination between competent authorities responsible for checks. Such coordination shall be pursued, inter alia, through access to databases and participation in information systems (art. 6). Annex I sets out the model of the common veterinary entry document (CVED).
