Abstract Walnuts are among the products listed out in Annex I to Regulation (EC) No. 2200/96 for which standards must be adopted. This Regulation lays down the marketing standards for walnuts in shell (the definition of which is laid down in Part I of the Annex attached) that shall apply at all stages of marketing, in accordance with the conditions established in the Regulation aforementioned. The Annex attached is divided into six Titles. Titles II to VI lay down provisions concerning quality, sizing, tolerances, presentation and marking respectively. In addition, two Appendixes are attached. Appendix I describes the methods to be followed for determining the moisture content. Appendix II regards the definition of defects for walnuts in shell.
