This Decision shall apply from 1 January 2001.
Abstract

Member States shall ensure that all bovine animals over 30 months of age and subject to “special emergency slaughtering” or slaughtered in accordance with Directive 64/433/EEC are examined by one of the approved rapid tests listed out in Annex IV (A) to Decision 98/272/EC as of January 2001. Paragraphs 2 and 3 of article 1 refer to the examinations to be performed on bovine animals over 30 months of age which, on the one hand, have died on the farm or during transport but have not been slaughtered for human consumption and, on the other hand, which have been normally slaughtered for human consumption. Member States shall submit a report on the number of animals examined in accordance with paragraphs 1 and 2 and the results thereof to the Commission. All parts of the body, including the hide, of animals examined in accordance with article 1 shall be retained under official supervision until a negative test result has been obtained or until it has been destroyed by incineration or, under exceptional circumstances, burned or buried in strict compliance with the conditions laid down in article 3(2) of Council Directive 90/667/EEC. Article 3 regards sampling and laboratory testing. Two Annexes are attached. Annex I lays down minimum requirements for a programme for monitoring BSE in bovine animals; Annex II specifies the information to be presented in the report by Member States and in the summary by the Commission.
