Abstract

After recognising the international significance of Turkish wetlands and the obligations stemming from the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (1971) (the Ramsar Convention), among others, this Circular lists a series of measures to be implemented immediately: (1) reevaluation of projects harmful to wetlands and impact assessment; (2) establishment of water purification installations and waste water standards; (3) control of pesticide and fertilizer use; (4) inspection of tourism and industrial operations with related preventive measures; (5) monitoring and prevention of illegal gaming, tree felling and burning; (6) prevention of the destruction of forests, pastures, etc., supporting ecosystems.
