They impose testing by taking a sample from the bovine using a tissue tag or supplementary tag by persons who have in his or her possession or under his or her control a bovine. The Regulations also place restrictions on the movement and public sales of bovines, provide with respect to designation of laboratories for the purposes of these Regulations and designate the national reference laboratory for Ireland in relation to bovine viral diarrhoea.
