Accordingly, the Act establishes the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (Commission) and provides for its composition and working. The President must appoint a Director-General who shall be the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Accounting Officer of the Commission, institute criminal proceeding on the direction of the Commission and discharge such other duties and functions as mentioned in the Act. The Commission shall take all possible measures to give effect to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption and any other international obligations which Sri Lanka has undertaken to prevent corruption. The Act provides for conducting investigations and enquiries into allegations of corruption, search and seizure, arresting without warrant and other related provisions. The Commission has power to deal with authorities in a foreign state if required. The Act provides protection to informers, whistleblowers, witnesses, and other persons assisting the Commission.
