Abstract

This Act provides for animal welfare. in particular it:(a) promotes the welfare and good treatment of animals; (b) seeks to protect animals from distress, pain or suffering; (c) regulates dog keeping, dog breeding and the importation of certain types of dangerous dogs; and (d) establishes the Mauritius Society for Animal Welfare. The objects of the Society shall be to: promote the welfare and good treatment of animals and to prevent cruelty to animals. The Society shall, among other things, implement such project or programme related to the welfare of animals as the Minister may approve. The Act defines various offences and defines powers of court for purposes of this Act.
