Abstract

This Act sets rules relative to the care and treatment of domestic animals. It also applies to other animals if they are kept in captivity or are used for scientific purposes. The rules concern housing, treatment, humane slaughter, sporting events, surgical procedures and experimenting on animals. A person who wishes to keep animals commercially or on a large scale for specified purposes such as fur breeding, shall obtain an operating permit from the local government. A permission for animal experimenting shall be obtained from the Swedish Animal Welfare Agency. This Agency shall be the supervisory authority for purposes of this Act.
