Abstract The purpose of this Act is to protect animals, including birds, fish, insects (but excluding micro-organisms) living in natural or artificial conditions. Section 2 contains definitions. Sections 3 prohibits maltreatment or killing except in cases provided for in section 4 of animals. Section 4 specifies circumstances in which it is allowed to kill animals. Section 5 prohibits killing of animals in presence of children except in circumstances listed. Section 7 provides for the payment of costs of "emergency slaughter". The veterinary and Food Inspectorate shall exercise State supervision over the implementation of the present Act. Section 9 provides for liability of offenders.
