Abstract

These Regulations provide for the licensing of Livestock Marts under the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013. “Livestock mart” means land or premises used to sell or supply livestock by auction or for holding livestock before their sale or supply by auction with the exception of premises selling or supplying only equidae species. “Livestock” means cattle, domesticated deer, equidae, sheep, pigs, goats or poultry. A person shall not operate a livestock mart except in accordance with a licence granted by the Minister. The may be conditions attached to the licence. The owner or operator of a livestock mart shall maintain accurate records regarding livestock that enters, leaves, is kept at, sold or supplied through the livestock mart. A person shall not, at a livestock mart, sell or supply, or cause or permit another person to sell or supply animals in specified conditions such as, for example, diseased animals. Bovines shall be identified in accordance with Regulation 1760/2000 of the European Parliament and of the Council and the European Communities (Identification of Bovines) Regulations 2009.
