The reporting obligations to the European Committee established in these regulations, shall enter into force on the date of accession of the Cypriot Republic to the European Union. Abstract The purpose of these regulations is a) to define long-term objectives, target values, alarm thresholds and information threshold for the public, for concentrations of ozone in ambient air of the Republic, intended to avoid, prevent or reduce harmful effects on human health and the environment; b) to ensure that common methods and criteria are used to assess concentrations of ozone and, according to specific cases, of ozone precursors including nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds in ambient air; c) to ensure that adequate information on ambient levels of ozone and relevant information is collected; d) to ensure that, as far as ozone is concerned, air quality where it is already at good levels is maintained and in other cases, improve; e) to promote increased cooperation between the Member States to reduce levels of ozone and the employment of transboundary measures and Agreements on these measures.
