Abstract The present Act amends some of the general provisions of the principal Act contained in Chapter 1. The amendments concern the prohibition of certain measures which affect inland waters which are in a natural condition and are other than those in Lapland. The Water Court may, in exceptional cases, issue permits for certain projects. Other provisions place restrictions for purposes of nature conservation on the abstraction of groundwater (sect. 18), drainage (sect. 1 of Chapter 6), and the regulation of the water level (sect. 3 of Chapter 7). In any case regard shall be had, in matters of permits, to provisions of the Nature Conservation Act (1096/19969 and the Historical Monuments Protection Act (295/63) (sect. 23(c) of Chapter 1).
