The Act applies to genetic resources and traditional knowledge of indigenous peoples relating to genetic resources that are introduced to Finland and which are subject to provisions by which a party to the Nagoya Protocol has implemented the Protocol's provisions on access and benefit sharing of genetic resources. The Act contains special provisions protecting the Sámi people's traditional knowledge concerning genetic resources, including the creation of a database of their traditional knowledge and a general prohibition against undermining their rights.
