Abstract The objective of this Act is to enhance safety at sea and to prevent marine pollution through the uniform application of the relevant international instruments relating to marine equipment to be used on ships. The present Act lays down rules for assessment of the compliance with requirements for marine equipment and for the control of marine equipment. These provisions apply to marine equipment that is placed or to be placed on European Union ships. The Act does not apply to naval vessels, border guards, police and customs service.
