Abstract

The present Act aims to safeguard life and health, the environment and sea resources, by enabling good ship safety and safety management (including the prevention of marine pollution), ensuring a safe working environment and working conditions on board ships, as well as a proper and timely supervision. The Act applies to Norwegian and foreign vessels, including fishing vessels. Ships of less than 24 meters in length that are not used for commercial activities are exempted from this Act. The Act contains the following Chapters: 1) Introductory provisions; 2) The ship company's duties. Safety management; 3) Technical and operational safety; 4) Woking environment and personal safety; 5) Environmental safety; 6) Security and terrorist preparedness; 7) Supervision; 8) Management measures; 9) Administrative sanctions; 10) Criminal liability; 11) Other provisions.
