Abstract

The present Act regulates the export of horses from Iceland. The export of horses is permitted without special permits, provided that the conditions of this Act and government directives issued in accordance with it are met. The Act specifies rules for inspection at the point of export, micro-marking, transport conditions, cases where a veterinarian is needed on board, horse passport, payment of fees, etc. A a five-member advisory committee on issues concerning the export of horses shall be appointed. It shall be a forum for consultation between the government and those who work on these issues. The Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority shall monitor compliance with the rules on conditions and care during transport.
