Act concerning the Territorial Waters of Sweden. Country/Territory Sweden Document type Legislation Date 1966 (1995) Source FAO, FAOLEX Subject Sea Keyword Maritime zone Territorial sea Sovereignty Geographical area Arctic, Europe, Europe and Central Asia, European Union Countries, North Atlantic, North Sea, North-East Atlantic, Northern Europe Abstract The only section remaining from this Act concerns the measurement of the territorial sea of Sweden. In the case of land areas, the baseline from which the territorial sea is measured is the low-water line along the coast. The territorial sea, however, is measured from skerries which rise above sea level at low-water level but not at mean water level, only if the skerries are not more than twelve/nautical miles from the land areas belonging to Sweden which are visible above water surface at mean water level. As regards internal waters along the coast, the territorial sea is measured from the outer boundaries of these water areas (straight baselines) unless such measurement is to be done in some other way because a land area is situated outside a straight baseline.
