Abstract

This Act, implementing provisions of Directive 2009/28/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources and amending and subsequently repealing Directives 2001/77/EC and 2003/30/EC, lays down criteria that biofuels must meet in order to be recognized as such. Biofuels, including biomass, shall meet the criteria as prescribed by the Directive. The Government may prescribe criteria additional to those of the Directive. The criteria concern mainly requirements of sustainable development, e.g. biofuels may not be produced from raw materials that are produced in certain protected areas.
