Résumé

The two Contracting Parties have concluded this Agreement with a view to facilitating trade in live animals and animal products between them. The Agreement establishes a mechanism for the recognition of equivalence of sanitary measures maintained by the two Parties consistent with the protection of public and animal health, and to improve communication and cooperation on sanitary measures. In accordance with article 6, the importing Party shall recognize a measure of the exporting Party as equivalent as long as the exporting Party objectively demonstrates that its measure achieves the importing Party’s appropriate level of protection. Such achievement shall be verified by following the criteria laid down in article 7. Consignments of live animals or animal products shall be accompanied by a health certificate, if required as per article 9. Article 11 refers to inspections to be carried out at frontiers. For the purposes of implementing this Agreement, article 16 sets up a Joint Management Committee.
