Chemical and related legislation in Australia reflects a wide variety of interests and employs diverse strategies to deal with the problem of controlling risks associated with chemicals. This article surveys the range of chemical legislation in Australia and canvasses some policy issues which are part of current debates on chemicals. In particular the role of right to know principles and international moves to harmonise aspects of risk assessmentt are discussed
