These inspections are required by Directive 2003/99/EC. The Regulations require food business operators involved in primary production to keep intact areas that been tested for a zoonosis and to provide tests to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on demand. The Department to consult the Northern Ireland Environment Agency in relation to any programme for the monitoring of zoonosis or zoonotic agents in wild animals that includes sampling of live wild animals or their nests or resting places. Remaining provisions deal with enforcement and create offences for obstructing an inspector.
