Résumé

The main purposes of this Act, consisting of 48 sections divided into four Parts, are: a) to establish the Victorian Fisheries Authority; b) to make amendments to the Fisheries Act 1995 to enable the Victorian Fisheries Authority and its chief executive officer to perform or exercise regulatory and other functions or powers under that Act; and c) to make further consequential amendments to the Conservation, Forests and Lands Act 1987, the Fisheries Act 1995 and other Acts. It establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of the above mentioned Authority entitled to perform the following activities: a) to promote sustainability and responsibility in fishing and fishing-related activities in Victoria; b) to optimise the social, cultural and economic benefits of the fisheries sectors; c) to support the development of recreational fishing; d) to support the development of commercial fishing and aquaculture; e) to work cooperatively with fisheries management bodies in other States, in Territories and the Commonwealth; and f) to perform its functions and exercise its powers in any manner it considers best achieves its objectives.
