Furthermore, this Act sets out provisions on the registration and functions of and qualification requirements for veterinary surgeons and animal health assistants and specialists. The functions of the registered animal health assistant include, but not limited to, the collection of blood samples, milk samples, fecal samples, and parasitic specimens; the vaccination of animals; the marking and identification of animals; and the giving of advice to farmers and the explanation of programmes and methods of control. This Act underlines that applying principles of environmental sanitation, food inspection, environmental pollution control, animal nutrition, zoonotic disease control and disaster medicine in the promotion and protection of public health, are included in the term of "practice of veterinary medicine and surgery".
