Veterinary and sanitary requirements No. 13-8-01/1-13 regarding import to the Russian Federation of horses destined for slaughtering.

Résumé

Healthy horses destined for slaughtering, born and bred in the exporting country are admitted to the territory of the Russian Federation on condition that the total number comes from infectious animal disease free farms and administrative territories. Horses are admitted to the territory of the Russian Federation on condition that they have not been fed by produced with the use of genetically modified additives or other genetically modified sources. Animals selected for export to the Russian Federation must be confined for at least 21 days to special quarantine stations in the exporting country, where they must be kept under observation for the whole period of confinement by the state veterinary institution of the exporting country. During quarantine period the total number of animals must undergo clinical examination. Horses must be vaccinated against anthrax at the request of importing country not less than 20 days before dispatch if they had not been vaccinated 6 months earlier. Only clinically healthy horses that have shown negative results in the course of diagnostic examinations are authorized for the dispatch. The compliance with these Veterinary and sanitary requirements must be certified by veterinary certificate, signed by the state veterinary inspector of the exporting country and composed in the language of the country of origin and in Russian. Veterinary Department of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture and Food reserves the right to carry out inspection control of the exporting horses by its own veterinary experts. Dispatch of animals to the Russian Federation is possible only after the authorization issued to the importer by Veterinary Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Animals must be slaughtered on the territory of the Russian Federation at the meat processing and packing factories within 2-3 days after their delivery. Horses must pass glanders' test before slaughtering. Only horses that have shown negative reaction must be destined for slaughtering.
