Résumé

This Act provides that every child of the age of six to fourteen years, including any child with disability, or belonging to a socially disadvantaged section or economically weaker section, shall have the right to free and compulsory education in a neighbourhood school till the completion of his or her elementary education. The appropriate Government and the local authority are required to establish schools within such areas or neighbourhood limits as may be prescribed. It shall also be their duty to provide infrastructure including school building as per the norms and standards specified in the Schedule. This includes providing safe and adequate drinking water facility to all children, toilets and a kitchen where mid-day meal is cooked in the school.
