Résumé The Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006 provides for conditions of employment and service, classification of workers and probation period, lay offs and retrenchment, termination of employment. The Act imposes restrictions on employment of children and adolescents. The Act provides for maternity benefit and requires health, hygiene and safety standards to be maintained in the establishment. The Act lays down provisions for payment of wages and establishes the Minimum Wages Board and also provides for compensation for injury caused by accident. The Act provides for registration of trade unions and allows registration as group establishments with establishments employing more than 20 workers. The following industries, inter-alia, are exempt from this rule: tea industry; jute bailing; bidi; chatal or rice mill worker; agricultural farm. The Act also provides for settlement of dispute, labour court and labour appellate tribunal. The Act lays down provisions for Tea Plantation Workers’ Provident Fund and Board of Trustees.
