Résumé

The purpose of the declaration of a compulsory standard is primarily to prevent fraud or deception arising from misleading advertising or labelling of pre-packaged goods and to require that adequate information be given to customers and users. Reference is made to the CODEX STAN 1 of 1985, Standards of the Barbados National Standards Institute, etc. The Order defines the scope of the Standard in article 1. Article 2 defines terms. Article 3 contains general principles of labelling and description of pre-packaged food. Article 4 outlines rules regarding mandatory labelling of food: name, list of ingredients, quantitative labelling, presentation of information's, etc. Article 5 concerns labelling of irradiated food. Article 6 states exemptions form mandatory labelling, whereas article 7 contains rules regarding optional labelling. remaining provisions concern language (art. 8), additional information (art. 9), general exemptions (art. 10), advice on labels (art. 11), and conflict between standards (art. 12).
