The Council shall be a successor of the SPCA National Council of Southern Africa. It shall, among other things: (a) determine, control and coordinate the policies and standards of societies, in order to promote uniformity; (b) promote cooperation among societies; (c) prevent the ill-treatment of animals. The Board of the Council has certain regulatory powers in respect of societies. Societies must be registered with the Council and shall comply with other rules set out by this Act.
