This Act shall come into force on such date as the Cabinet Secretary may, by Notice in the Gazette appoint.
Résumé

This Act makes provision for the coordination and regulation of the progress of science, technology and innovation in Kenya. It establishes the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation to regulate and assure quality in the science, technology and innovation sector. The Commission shall be the successor to the existing National Council for Science and Technology. It also provides for establishment of Advisory Research Committees within the Commission. Anyone wishing to undertake scientific research shall obtain a licence and a licensee shall comply with procedures, standards and codes of ethics prescribed by the Commission. The Act also provides for the registration of research institutes by the Cabinet Secretary on the recommendation of the Commission. The Commission shall have the function of monitoring and evaluating the operations of such institutions and the power to close any that fails to adhere to any directions issued by the Commission after evaluation. The Act also establishes the Kenya National Innovation Agency and the establishes the National Research Fund.
