The objectives of the Committee shall include: (a) to ensure that the majority of the Malawian population in peri-urban and rural communities have access to efficient, sustainable and affordable energy; (b) to prepare annual rural electrification programme(s) and advise the Minister and to ensure the efficient and effective implementation of rural electrification programmes; (c) to promote rural electrification and act as a source of technical, commercial and institutional advice in rural electrification matters. The Act establishes also the Malawi Rural Electrification Fund, which shall be administered by the Committee.
