Résumé

With a view to protect the environment and to assist consumers to become environmentally responsible, the present Resolution provides for the labelling of household and other consumer products. The products which meet certain environmental criteria along with quality requirements shall be recognized as Environmentally Friendly Products. The label shall be know as "ECOMARK". A Steering Committee shall be in charge, inter alia, of the formulation of strategies, the promotion of programmes of comparative testing and the dissemination of the relevant information. The identification of the individual products and the determination of the criteria for awarding the ECOMARK shall be carried out by the Technical Committee. The implementation of the Scheme is entrusted to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), whose functions pertain to the following: (a) issuance of the ECOMARK; (b) review, suspension or cancellation of the licence for the use of the ECOMARK; (c) mark inspections and analysis of the material to be marked. The label shall be issued for a minimum period of one year.
