Résumé This Resolution approves the Technical Regulation that establishes the iodine content in salt for human consumption to eradicate harmful effects to health caused by iodine deficiency or excess, establishing a three to one proportionality between the maximum and minimum limits of iodine content in view of the characteristics of salt processing, mainly with regard to the iodination stage. The following definitions are adopted: salt for human consumption: crystallized sodium chloride, extracted from natural sources, obligatorily added with iodine; the iodization operation consists of adding the micronutrient iodine to the salt in the form of potassium iodate.
