This Resolution provides for the Syrian Standardization and Metrology for: air quality; maximum consented limits for water pollution caused by industrial drainage; maximum consented limits for air pollution at the pollution source; and classification of hazardous solid industrial waste and for industrial operations producing hazardous solid waste. The adoption of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards aims at the definition of the Maximum Consented Limit (MCL) for pollutants in the air in order to realize the following objectives: prevention and control of pollution; protection of the public health and environment; collection and publication of a pollutants database; comparison between air pollutant's concentration levels with the National Ambient Air Quality Standards; and, protection of air quality. List I contains the National Ambient Air Quality Standards related to SO2, NO2, O3, CO, Pb, TSP, PM-10, C6H6 and Benzo[a] Pyrene). List II provides for maximum limits of pollution discharge in the water. List III deals with maximum emission limits of air pollution parameter sources. List IV classifies hazardous waste containing more than 50mg/kg of the aforementioned elements. List V classifies the hazardous waste containing more than 5000mg/kg of the aforementioned elements. List VI classifies hazardous waste containing more than 20000 mg/kg of the aforesaid elements. List VII contains the hazardous waste containing more than 50000mg/kg of the aforesaid elements.
