This Resolution enters into force from the 2003 season.
Résumé

This Resolution is composed of 3 articles and 1 Annex. Article 1 deals with the following definitions, classifications and standards of wheat: (a) hard wheat (durum) and soft wheat (stigm) with a 90 percent purity shall be considered Syrian wheat; (b) wheat is classified into first, second, third and fourth class; (c) hard wheat (durum) shall have long grains with a corrugated cross-section, a long-extended and bloated germ, a short fuzzy extremity, shall be hard to break and shall not change colour with phenol; (d) hard wheat (durum) shall be divided into 12 classes including Italian, Hourani, Hamary, Sheikhany, Jury 69, Aljazeera 17, Sham 1, Sham 3, Sham 5, Buhooth 1, Buhooth 5, Aksad 65, etc.; (e) soft wheat (stigma) shall have short grains with a circular cross-section, shall be fragile with a starch aspect, a circular and wide germ, a long fuzzy extremity and shall change colour with phenol; (f) soft wheat (stigm) shall be divided into 8 classes including Sham 2, Sham 4, Sham 6, Buhooth 4, Buhooth 6, French, Maxi-back (city-Sirius), Baitak 62, etc. General definitions of insects, affected grains, impurity, density, etc. are also given in article 1. The Director-General of the General Administration for Cereal Trade and Processing has the full power to issue the necessary instructions for clearing the provisions of this Resolution (art. 2). The Annex contains the official standards and measures of wheat.
