Competences and objectives of the aforementioned Centre are: (a) to produce high quality palm shoots and palm seedlings to be destined to agriculturists for the expansion and enlargement of the palm habitat; (b) to limit, control and study palm pests and diseases; (c) to estimate and evaluate local palm families and species; (d) to guide and instruct tillers to use palm cultivation and care technology; and, (e) to qualify and train specialists and technicians for the cultivation of palms.
